About

A place gathers more than the lives lived within it. It carries stories repeated until they acquire the weight of truth, images through which belonging becomes recognisable, and silences that settle into the texture of the ordinary. Power endures in these arrangements, shaping what can be remembered, who can appear, and the futures that remain imaginable.

Collective imaginaries inhabit the material world. They give identity its familiar outlines and history its apparent continuity. Yet something always remains unassimilated: a life that exceeds its assigned image, a remnant without a story, a past whose disappearance is still taking place. Forgetting has a presence of its own.

Photography enters this uncertain ground. Every frame participates in the making of a narrative, even as its details leave that narrative unfinished. Between what survives and what can be said of it, another reading remains possible.
